So what did we get into this month?

We made messes.

We made floors!

We made a pinata!!

Look at how amazing! I'm going to toot my own horn and say I did a kick-ass job!!

Two separate pinatas, one for the little kids and one for the big kids. 

My only regret- not taking a whack! 

Aunt Betty seemed to like it and that made my heart smile. 

So who needs a pinata? I ship!!

A day late again, and it would have been later still if it weren't for a functional blogger app! Hooray!!

I jumped onto the iPhone bandwagon finally and I love it. Since Marcia is busy enjoying life and I can't wait until
next month, here is my craft for the month.

My gift to Marcia! I made her a little camera bag and strap cover. I was so happy to complete it on time. I tweeked my initial design by adding a pocket in the back and a loop to hook things on to like lens filters or keys. You have no idea how proud I am that I finished in time. I'm such a procrastinator. To top it off, I broke my machine [it may have been thrown into a wall in a fit of frustration] and hand stitched it together.

I'm a day late, and a few letters short...

Here is one of my shower gifts. These will be part of the display above the crib. 

No, this child will not be named elicit.

Felicity will be her name and I'm thinking I like the originality of elicit better. 

My goal is to recreate something like this.

It's so cheap, it's almost free!

I decided to trace letters on the scrap cardboard I stole from cousin's house. I'm always picking through the recycling bin for crafts! The yarn was also left over from a project I never started. 

I picked up wooden embroidery hoops in varying sizes tonight while I was on my mad dash to find HAM a birthday gift! I'm torn between leaving them bare wood or painting them. I plan to dig through my scrap fabric and recycled dresses for fabric to fill them. 

In the end, a homemade and heart-felt gift for about $4! 

So far my biggest expense for this shower has been the case of diapers!

SWEET BABY JEBUS!

How can people blow SO MUCH MONEY on disposable diapers?!

This was a spur of the moment kind of craft. Opportunity presented itself and I struck! It's March and I've been embracing the whole recycling-craft idea and this goes along with it. I have to admit I'm pretty smitten with how it turned out.

Early one morning I returned from helping Claire in the bathroom to find this...

Emma and Ham had ripped a hole in the top of the play table. It was a pleather top with a little foam beneath it. The were gleefully shoving their hands through the hole and were quite tickled with their distruction. They are turning into a terrible twosome.

Initially I was going to save the foam batting and get more pleather, but the foam was also ripped so I stripped it completely. It was fiberboard(?), a bit like a clipboard, and the top unfinished so it looked like canvas!

I sanded, primed, and cleaned up during an episode of Play With Me Sesame.

I eagerly waited for nap time to start this!

Then nap was over and I had a boarder!

After pestering my cousin we decided on letters because chalk board paint is expensive AND I wouldn't be able to tolerate the chalk dust!

For the next few days I added more letters during nap time. 

I should have better spaced things, but it was all free hand and I didn't want it to look too planned.

 

After this I handed it over to my cousin. She polyed and sanded it. The poly picked up the red boarder and gave it a really cool antiqued look. She lightly sanded between coats which distressed it a bit and added to the antiqued look. I love it!

I'm sure I'll be a little depressed when they outgrow this and it goes the way of the dinosaurs. For now it will serve as our play table. It's far more durable then another fabric top that would suffer the same fait as the first. The ladies also started playing "Letters" where they grab a chair and slap the letters they call out. Letter recognition! HA! 

Not too shabby, save for the N,Q, and V area. My attempts to fix them only made it worse. I love the G but the girls don't recognize it as a G, the same holds true for the lower case D and the E occasionally. The C and the U are often confused as well. My favorite letters are the L, J, Y, I, G, and especially my zebra print Z!
